Tell me more about YOU, the dedicated and hardworking Girl Boss behind the business.

I am a full time English teacher and teach 11th and 12th grade! I also am a track and field coach and specialize in the throwing events such as discus and shot put. When I’m not teaching or coaching- you can find me in the kitchen experimenting and creating new recipes.

I have always had a passion for cooking and baking and am always eager to learn a new skill in the kitchen. When I took a class on decorating cookies I fell in love and it has become a passion of mine ever since!

Tell us more about your business and how you became a Girl Boss.
Cookie Boss developed overnight and was inspired by one of my student’s parents. I had tweeted out a photograph of some cookies that I had decorated at a class with the caption- Once a student always a student! A parent messaged me saying how beautiful the cookies were and that I should consider entering into the schools vendor fair the following month.

Cookie Boss is a brand that prides itself on putting smiles on customers’ faces. Each and every cookie set is unique to the individual that orders it. Due to COVID and the pandemic it allowed the business to blossom. I began doing sponsored cookie drops where individuals could select first responders, health care workers, police, etc to receive the custom cookies that represented their field.

What does it mean to you to be a #GIRLBOSS?
Being a #GIRLBOSS means that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I am extremely dedicated to learning new techniques and skills that will in turn help to grow my business and skill set. As a teacher I am continually learning new practices to help become the best teacher I can for my students and that same mindset can be applied to my cookie business as well. I hope through all of this that I can inspire one of my students to take a leap of faith, go out there and give it their all and create a job that they enjoy.

What do you love most about running your own business and being a Girl Boss?
I love interacting with my customers and getting to know them and their design ideas and bringing those ideas to life! Being able to get creative with my sets is the best part- I love when customers allow me the opportunity to get creative with the set as it gives me the chance to try some of the new techniques I’ve learned.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in being a business owner?
One of the challenges that I’ve faced is learning how to manage that work-home balance. Being a teacher during the day and a cookier at night can be very stressful at times. I strive to be very organized and planned out so when I would leave school I would work and do cookies for the remainder of the evenings. At times it can be very stressful especially when you’re just starting out but learning how to manage my time effectively has helped tremendously over the past year and a half.

What advice would you give to aspiring Girl Bosses?
If you can dream it, you can do it. Find something that you’re passionate about and chase it and you’ll never work a day in your life. People will tell you, you can’t along the way but trust me, you can. Keep chugging along and if you’re looking for a sign to take that next step, here it is!
