Utica, NY is known for their tomato pie, greens, black and white cookies and chicken riggies. They don’t mess around when it comes to food staples (my personal fav is tomato pie – SO good). This wasn’t my time visiting Utica, so I ventured to a few local establishments that I hadn’t yet checked out. So, here are a few businesses you can visit next time you find yourself in Utica for fun, business, or just because.
7 Hamlets Brewing Company
7 Hamlets Brewing Company is a locally owned and operated Farm Brewery and Tap Room in Westmoreland, NY. The indoor atmosphere is relaxed, rustic and the perfect place to grab a drink with friends. They have a large outdoor space and enclosed porch that opens up in the warmer months. They have a lot of craft beer choices, cider, wine growlers and 16oz cans. They have a food truck you can order from if you’re hungry, or bar snacks to choose from if you’re just looking to hang out and have a few drinks.
Bagg’s Square Brewing Company
Bagg’s Square Brewing Company is located inside a historic factory building that was a hardware store in the Bagg’s Square district of Utica. The atmosphere and details throughout the brewery are stunning and make for the perfect place to enjoy with friends and family. During my visit, we shared the avocado fries and a Bavarian cheese dip, both very good. They have over a dozen craft beers on tap, NY wines, cider and mixed drinks. When we were getting ready to go, they had a band getting ready to play. I would definitely like to go back and try more of their offerings next time I’m in Utica.
Ocean Blue Restaurant + Oyster Bar
Ocean Blue Restaurant + Oyster Bar is Utica’s ONLY rooftop restaurant and oyster bar. Their interior is a mix of elegant black and white décor, they have a large copper bar, and floor to ceiling windows that offer a panoramic view of the city. They have an open kitchen that allows you to watch the culinary team in action, preparing their signature dishes. Their food is top notch, their atmosphere and outdoor dining is so enjoyable, and their ladies bathroom is the best place for a selfie. I highly recommend Ocean Blue if you’re looking for a fantastic dinner and place to enjoy.
Utica Coffee Roasting Co.
Utica Coffee Roasting Co. has locations in Utica and Clinton, they have their world-class roasting & education center on Hotel Street, and a production facility in a historical building in Utica. It’s clear that the brand has grown to be a staple of the Utica community. They hire locally, provide retail space to a variety of locally sourced products, and their coffee is sold and served throughout Upstate New York. While this was my first time having Utica coffee, it certainly will not be my last because their coffee is SO good. I highly recommend checking out Utica Coffee when you’re in town for a pick-me-up.
